Cake Run 2: Vanilla Cupcake Bakery

Welcome to another episode of Cake Run. My name is Lyndsay and I am going to do a review of my latest cake/pastry trip. This time, I happen to choose a cupcake shop. Exterior-wise, the design did not attract me at all but since I am really after the taste and experience, I decided to give it a shot.

The good news is the interior is way better than the exterior. It is homey, cozy and very cute that I highly suggest for you to actually sit down and eat instead of just taking out. After all, the pastries are not cheap and service is quite good.

Pairing # 1: Oreo Cheesecake Cupcake and Café Latte

Visual: Looks really yummy like how one will look at an Oreo with cream but nothing special as I have seen Oreo cupcakes with more or less the same design. I must say though that any pastry topped with Oreo and cream is forever a classic mouthwatering dessert treat;-P
The Cafe Latte looks like your classic coffee with milk but to make it more attractive visually, I suggest for the shop to employ coffee art. You know, the popular twisting and tapping the blended milk carafe to turn the cream into heart, leaf, cat etc. The good service that elevated the experience is the fact that they provided you with two glass jars of brown and white sugar. And as customers, we love being pampered like that. Don’t you just hate it when you pay around two hundred bucks for coffee and they limit you with only a pack of white sugar?
Taste: This treat is surprisingly not too sweet. It was also not too filling that I was not fed up after finishing the cupcake. The cream is light and not too overpowering but when eaten with the Oreo, you can still enjoy the taste of both as they complement each other. The cheesecake factor arrives when you are already at the crust. It is crunchy and slightly sweeter but the amount compensated for it. Too much of that crusty stuff can possibly make one feel full so I kind of applaud the thought given to it by the makers. Paired with Café Latte made the experience more memorable. Personally, I suggest not to add sugar into your latte as the sweetness of the cupcake already gives your taste buds the right amount of sweet for you to fully enjoy this afternoon treat.

Pairing # 2: Sea Salt Choco Caramel Mousse with Vanilla Iced Tea

Visual: Pretty nice with the red ribbon surrounding the jar. Pity though I forgot to ask if I can take home the jar:( The layering is composed of three different colors with the white cream taking dominance as the black brownies are inserted in between drizzled with light brown caramel.

The Vanilla Iced Tea is placed in a simple jar but looks refreshing but I took a risk because a sweet treat is not usually advisable being paired up with a drink that has a reputation to be sweet itself.

Taste: As expected, it was yummy because after all, one cannot go wrong with the long lasting partnership between chocolate and caramel but, what made me order this treat aside from the fact that it is placed in the jar is I want to know if the maker is somehow able to make the sea salt prominent given the overpowering flavor of chocolate and caramel. Sadly though, I did not taste nor feel the sea salt aspect. Nevertheless, the treat is quite good but I suggest sharing or not to finish it in one sitting because you might feel overwhelmed.
Paired with Vanilla Iced Tea, perhaps not as good if I went for the classic coffee or tea partnership but it was refreshing for a change. Plus, I don’t like the feeling of drinking two cups of coffee in one sitting so might as well try a cool drink which matches the warm weather here. As with the taste of iced tea, the aftertaste of vanilla is very pleasing and adds to the charm of the otherwise simple ordinary beverage.

Have a Merry Sunday! Feel free to comment and share your thoughts on the comment box below.
